Playing with Paper: Collage & Tiny Houses
COLLAGE ART
I enjoy the challenge of creating a compelling design within a limited space. Mixing colorful and patterned papers, I try to create images that draw the viewer into the work and delight the eye.
I discovered collage making in October, 2020, during the Covid lock down. While some of my collages are larger, most of my collages are made on playing cards measuring from 2 1/2 x 3 1/2” to 4 3/4 x 6 5/8” My materials include paper: pieces cut from magazines and books, letters and envelopes, maps, text, postage stamps, painted paper, foils, and sheet music. I also use fabric scraps, game pieces, money, tissue paper, glass, found metal objects, matchbooks, and various other bits. It is the evolution of each design in my hands that gives me joy.
My tiny houses are an extension of my collage work. Loosely based on reality, each house gives me an opportunity to imagine and play, using collage techniques on a 3 dimensional structure.
